Why this matters

PageRank is the original insight that links are votes — and understanding how link equity flows through a site explains why some pages rank despite thin content while others never appear for their exact-match keyword. The mental model of equity flowing through links shapes every internal linking and link-building decision.

Try it yourself

1. Draw a simplified link graph of your site's top five pages, including which pages link to which — then identify which page receives the most internal link equity based on the number and prominence of inbound links.
2. Check whether your highest-traffic page passes link equity to your most commercially important page via at least one internal link — if not, add a contextual link and note its anchor text.
3. Find a high-authority external site that links to your homepage but not to your most important inner page — note the URL so you can pitch a more specific link target in a future outreach.
