Why this matters

PMM interviews are often poorly structured compared to PM or engineering interviews — knowing which signals interviewers are really looking for (and which questions reveal them) gives you an edge as both a candidate and a hiring manager.

Try it yourself

1. Write down three PMM interview questions you've seen or heard, then identify which core competency (positioning, research, sales partnership, metrics) each question is probing for.
2. For the question 'Tell me about a product launch you owned,' write a 90-second answer using the STAR method that explicitly surfaces a PMM-specific decision point.
