Inbox providers score every sending domain and IP on a rolling reputation that gates how many of your emails get delivered — domain age, sending volume consistency, and engagement signals all feed into it. A single spike of complaints can take weeks of clean sending to repair.

Try it yourself

Check your sending IP's reputation at Google Postmaster Tools (postmaster.google.com) and record the current domain reputation tier (High/Medium/Low/Bad).
Pull your last 30-day complaint rate from your ESP's analytics and compare it to the 0.08% threshold Gmail uses to begin throttling.
